Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is the Japanese word for Universal Life Force. Rei for spiritual or universal, and Ki for life force, or energy, which flows in and around all of us.
In the West, Reiki has generally come to mean a way of treating others, a form of laying-on of hands. At its origin however, Reiki was a way of life, a path to self-fulfilment. It was called Usui-Do or Usui-Teate. In this sense, it is very supportive of personal development work. For this reason it has become an important part of my practice and my passion for helping people develop and become the best they can be.
Although the founder of Reiki, Mikao Usui’s teachings are rooted in Tendai Buddhism, Shinto and the martial arts, you need not change your own religious persuasion or adhere to a different belief system to either enjoy Reiki or take Reiki training.
In practice, during a Reiki session, the practitioner channels this pure ‘chi’ energy through her hands to the recipient, enhancing the individual’s natural ability to maintain wellbeing or heal him/herself. The client lies down on a treatment couch for maximum relaxation, and remains fully clothed.
Working in partnership with the recipient’s conscious or unconscious needs and best interest, the intelligent energy works where it is needed, and is instrumental in releasing stress and tension. In a state of relaxation the body is in the best condition to attempt self-repair, and the mind to regain a more positive, balanced outlook.
Reiki is a safe and natural method of relaxation and healing, which works on all levels: physical as well as emotional, mental and spiritual. Though people will often choose Reiki in order to relieve symptoms, it can also work on the root cause of the discomfort and afford insight into to the next step on one’s life journey.
It is suitable for absolutely everyone who wants it, and can be used alongside conventional medicine as well as other complementary therapies or self-help techniques.
I am a qualified Usui Reiki Master/Teacher, and I also hold a Karuna Reiki practitioner certificate registered with the International Center for Reiki Training.
I teach Original Usui and Integrated Western Reiki, comprising much of the teachings traditionally shared in the West over the past twenty years or so, and of Original Japanese Usui Reiki with information coming from surviving students of Mikao Usui’s, which had become available in the West in the last 15 years or so.
Training is delivered in regular small group classes in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Please visit the Reiki Courses page for more information.
On-going development support is available and I run a well-attended monthly Reiki Share and Practice Group at St Robert’s Centre in Harrogate and regular Reiki Energy Retreat Days, as well as an annual residential Retreat in Cumbria.
If you have trained in Reiki and would like to participate in the Reiki Share, please contact me. The next Reiki Share is 7pm -9:30pm at St Robert’s Centre on Thursday 7 November 2019, and every first Thursday of the month after that until 5 December 2019.
