Stress Management
Stress can be experienced in many different ways, and something that is very stressful for one person may not be stressful for another. Because it is such a personal experience, it can be difficult to talk about - perhaps because a person may fear it is a sign of weakness - and sometimes it can be difficult to recognise in ourselves.
For all these reasons, I encourage people to think of stress as a natural, non-specific response of the body to a demand made on it. Our bodies have to deal with many demands every day, and it is how we interpret situations and our range of strategies for responding that determine how much stress we are likely to suffer.
The causes of stress are as varied as bereavement, separation or divorce, redundancy, financial changes, promotion, falling in love or the arrival of a new child. In fact, any big life event as well as daily routine and lifestyle matters are potential stressors.
Stress manifests in a variety of symptoms, including behavioural, physical, mental, emotional and psychological reactions. Working holistically across all these aspects, I can help you to stand back from your situation and develop: greater understanding of what is happening; more options in how to manage the source of stress; and practical relaxation techniques to use every day. For example, EFT is an excellent tool to assist you in managing situations you typically find stressful.
Stress in the work place
The organisational cost of stress is high, especially when it goes unrecognised for too long and becomes ingrained in the culture. It can lead to increased sickness absence, increased staff turnover, reduced staff performance, and low morale. At an individual level it can leave people lacking in confidence and unable to function well in their job.
I believe the most powerful way of addressing stress in the work place is a balance of the right policies and practices, combined with education aimed at helping individuals manage their own well-being effectively.
My work in organisations is designed to facilitate this individual learning process, enabling people to develop insights and practical techniques that they can use to combat stress.
I run workshops and shorter 'bite-size' sessions in-house, tailored to the needs of the organisation. I also include Stress Management in one-to-one Coaching consultations where appropriate.
